FIM
FIM is a three-layer acoustic lining composite from AMC Mecanocaucho, combining a fibreglass facing, an M-1 class fire-resistant polyurethane foam absorber, and a 5 kg/m2 viscoelastic mass layer. It delivers thermal insulation, fire resistance, hydrocarbon resistance, and vibration damping in a single panel.
Specifications
- Composition: Fibreglass facing, M-1 class fire-resistant absorbing polyurethane foam, and 5 kg/m2 heavy viscoelastic mass layer
- Available thicknesses: 15 mm, 25 mm
- Sheet dimensions: 1200 x 1000 mm
- Weight (FIM-15): 7.335 kg/m2
- Weight (FIM-25): 8.085 kg/m2
- Weighted sound reduction (Rw): 24 dB (both thicknesses)
- Packaging (15 mm): 8 sheets per box
- Packaging (25 mm): 5 sheets per box
- Self-adhesive option: Available (FIM-15 A, FIM-25 A)
Applications
Thermal insulation and acoustic isolation in industrial machinery housings, engine compartments, and vehicles. The fibreglass facing resists hydrocarbons, fuels, and oils. The viscoelastic mass layer dampens structural vibrations and adds mass-loaded sound insulation performance. Suited where M-1 fire resistance and combined isolation plus damping are required.
Standards and compliance
Fire classification M-1 (French classification for fire-resistant materials). Verified against AMC Mecanocaucho product data.
Frequently asked questions
How does FIM differ from FI?
FIM adds a 5 kg/m2 viscoelastic mass layer to the FI construction, raising the panel weight to 7.335 kg/m2 (15 mm) and improving the Rw to 24 dB. FI achieves 22-23 dB without the mass layer.
Is FIM a strong acoustic absorber?
No. As stated by the manufacturer, FIM is not primarily an acoustic absorber but functions as an absorbing isolator. The mass layer adds damping and increases airborne sound isolation.
How many sheets are supplied per box?
The 15 mm variant is supplied 8 sheets per box; the 25 mm variant is supplied 5 sheets per box. Each sheet measures 1200 x 1000 mm.
