Height Adjuster – Shim
The Height Adjuster Shim is a marine-grade levelling plate from AMC Mecanocaucho used to set the precise height of anti-vibration mounts without threaded studs. Made from anti-corrosive steel, it is suitable for marine environments and is the recommended levelling method under DNV rules, which prohibit conventional stud-based height adjusters for marine mount installations.
Specifications
- Material: Anti-corrosive steel plate
- Small (code 136301): 120 x 100 mm, thickness 3 mm, weight 0.13 kg
- Medium (code 136302): 183 x 140 mm, thickness 4 mm, weight 0.326 kg
- Large (code 136303): 228 x 182 mm, thickness 5 mm, weight 0.792 kg
Applications
Used for levelling marine engine mounts, auxiliary machinery mounts, and heavy industrial anti-vibration isolators. The shim is placed beneath the mount to set the correct height, avoiding the cyclic bending stresses imposed on conventional threaded-stud levelling systems. Available in three sizes to suit different mount footprints and load conditions.
Standards and compliance
The shim method is specified in DNV rules for ships and high-speed light craft (Issue January 2016, Part 4, Chapter 3, Section 1, F202) as the recommended approach for marine mount levelling.
Frequently asked questions
Why are shims preferred over threaded studs for marine levelling?
DNV prohibits threaded-stud adjusters for marine mount levelling because cyclic bending moments cause stud fatigue failures. Shims bear load directly through a flat steel surface, removing this failure mode.
How do I select the correct shim size?
Three sizes are available based on mount footprint: small (code 136301, 120 mm long), medium (code 136302, 183 mm), and large (code 136303, 228 mm).
