Visco-elastic Layers
Visco-elastic Layers are heavy sound-insulation sheets from AMC Mecanocaucho composed of a rubber elastomer compound mixed with barite. Applied directly to metallic surfaces, they add mass and damping to reduce structure-borne noise transmission through panels, enclosures, and machinery housings.
Specifications
- Composition: rubber elastomer compound mixed with barite
- Density: 1,950 kg per cubic metre
- Available variants: MP5 (2.6 mm thick, 5 kg per square metre) and MP10 (5 mm thick, 10 kg per square metre)
- Sheet dimensions: 1,230 mm x 1,030 mm
- Adhesive options: single-sided adhesive (A) or double-sided adhesive (AA)
- Product codes: MP5 A (26603), MP10 A (26604), MP5 AA (26605), MP10 AA (26606)
Applications
Visco-elastic Layers are applied directly to metal panels, covers, housings, and structural elements to damp vibration and reduce airborne noise radiation. Common uses include machinery enclosures, vehicle body panels, duct cladding, and any metallic surface requiring localised noise reduction without significant structural modification.
Frequently asked questions
What does the barite filler contribute?
Barite is a dense mineral that increases the surface mass of the sheet, which raises the sound insulation (mass law), while the rubber elastomer provides the damping that converts vibrational energy to heat.
Which variant should be chosen for a thicker noise barrier?
The MP10 at 5 mm and 10 kg per square metre provides greater mass and damping than the MP5, making it suited to applications where higher noise reduction is required and additional thickness is acceptable.
Do the sheets require adhesive for installation?
Sheets are available with single-sided or double-sided adhesive backing for direct bonding, or without adhesive where mechanical fastening or another bonding method is preferred.
