Shooting Ranges
Shooting Ranges is an acoustic treatment solution from Pinta Acoustics for indoor shooting facilities. SONEX and WILLTEC panels, made from Basotect melamine foam, absorb sound waves at 500 and 1,000 Hz, the most common frequencies produced by gunfire, protecting shooters and bystanders from hearing damage.

- NRC (colortec charcoal): 0.95 (ASTM C423-90a, Mounting Type A)
- Target reverberation time: 1.3 to 1.5 seconds
- Density: 0.5 to 0.7 lbs per cubic ft (ASTM D3574-77)
- Long-term service temperature: 150 degrees C (302 degrees F)
- Finish options: Natural light grey, water-based acoustic coating in standard, premium and custom colours, charcoal colortec
Applications
Designed for military, government, law enforcement, public and private indoor shooting ranges. Panels treat walls and ceilings to achieve a target reverberation time of 1.3 to 1.5 seconds. Unlike fibreglass, gunpowder residue does not degrade the foam's acoustic performance over time.
Standards and compliance
Flame spread and smoke density: passes Class A per ASTM E84 and CAN ULCS-102. Microbial growth: passes UL 181 section 11. Fungus resistance: Rating 0 per ASTM G21.
Frequently asked questions
Why is melamine foam preferred over fibreglass in shooting ranges?
Gunpowder residue does not penetrate or reduce the acoustic performance of melamine foam, unlike fibreglass where contamination degrades absorption over time.
What frequencies do these panels absorb best?
The panels provide excellent sound absorption at 500 Hz and 1,000 Hz, the most common frequencies produced by gunfire, with NRC values of 0.90 to 0.95.
Can the panels be cleaned after use?
Yes. Panels are easy to clean. The optional water-based acoustic coating or colortec dye finish provides added durability and makes cleaning more straightforward.
