SONEX Mini Panels
SONEX Mini Panels are thin, convoluted acoustic panels from Pinta Acoustics, made from lightweight open-cell WILLTEC melamine foam. Their smaller surface pattern and slim profile make them well suited to machine enclosures, air vents and confined spaces where standard panel depths are impractical but high-frequency noise control is a priority.
Specifications
- Material: Open-cell melamine-based foam (WILLTEC)
- Density: 0.5 to 0.7 lb/cubic ft (0.23 to 0.32 kg/m3, ASTM D3574-77)
- Panel size: 24 x 48 in (610 x 1219 mm); custom sizes available
- Thicknesses: 1 in (25 mm) or 1-1/2 in (38 mm); custom available
- Edge profile: Square-edge standard; optional 15, 22.5, 30 and 45-degree bevel edges
- Long-term service temperature: 302 degrees F (150 degrees C); chars but does not ignite above 1100 degrees F (593 degrees C)
- Finishes: Natural white or light grey; water-based acoustic coating in standard, premium and custom colours
- Installation: Adhered using pinta acouSTIC PA-02 water-base or PA-04 neutral-cure silicone adhesive
- NRC (natural, 1 in): 0.50 per ASTM C423-90a, Mounting A
- NRC (natural, 1-1/2 in): 0.65 per ASTM C423-90a, Mounting A
- NRC (water-based coated, 1 in): 0.70 per ASTM C423-90a, Mounting A
Applications
Machine enclosures and air vents requiring thinner panels; any confined space where high-frequency noise is the primary concern. The lightweight foam can be cut on-site to fit irregular enclosure shapes.
Standards and compliance
Flame spread and smoke density: Class A per ASTM E 84; passes CAN ULC-S102. WILLTEC natural meets corner burn test UL 1715. Microbial growth: passes UL 181 section 11. Fungus resistance: Rating 0 per ASTM G21.
Frequently asked questions
How do SONEX Mini Panels differ from standard SONEX panels?
Mini Panels use a smaller convoluted surface pattern and come in thinner profiles (1 in and 1-1/2 in) compared to the 2 in and 3 in options found on standard SONEX panels. This makes them suitable for machine enclosures and other confined spaces where depth is constrained.
Can the panels withstand high operating temperatures?
Yes. The WILLTEC foam handles constant temperatures above 300 degrees F (149 degrees C) and will char rather than ignite at temperatures above 1100 degrees F (593 degrees C), making it appropriate for use near machinery that generates sustained heat.
Can they be cut to fit on site?
Yes. The lightweight foam panels can be cut to fit on site, which is particularly useful in machine enclosures and air duct applications with non-standard dimensions.
