ANTI-SEISMIC VISCO
ANTI-SEISMIC VISCO is a spring mount from AMC Mecanocaucho that combines a steel coil spring with a viscous damper for applications requiring the highest degree of vibration isolation and seismic stability. It is designed for plant where high eccentricity or seismic exposure makes a standard undamped spring mount insufficient.
Specifications
- Damping system: integral viscous damper with no maintenance required
- Critical damping ratio: above 30%
- Lateral buffers: Sylomer and steel composite, rated for high lateral forces during seismic events
- Base pad material: Sylomer layer under the mount, isolates mid and high frequencies that pass through the steel spring
- Surface coating: cataphoresis electro-coat finish for resistance to extreme corrosive environments
- Maintenance requirement: none on the damping system
Applications
Used for emergency generator sets in hospitals and data centres, high-eccentricity pumps and piston compressors where an inertia base is not practical, HVAC equipment in hospitals and residential buildings, and rotating machinery exposed to shock loads, oil or diesel drip, or outdoor weathering. Suited to any installation where both seismic restraint and high isolation performance are mandatory.
Frequently asked questions
Why is a viscous damper included in addition to the coil spring?
A coil spring alone provides low-frequency isolation but produces resonance amplification at its natural frequency, which can be problematic during seismic events or equipment start-up. The viscous damper suppresses this resonance, with a critical damping ratio above 30%, while the spring continues to isolate steady-state vibration.
What does the cataphoresis coating protect against?
The cataphoresis electro-coat is an industrial corrosion-protection process that provides resistance to extreme corrosive environments, including exposure to oil, diesel, and outdoor weathering, making the mount suitable for plant rooms, rooftop installations, and generator enclosures.
How do the lateral Sylomer buffers work during a seismic event?
The lateral buffers combine Sylomer polyurethane and steel to absorb and limit the high lateral forces that occur during seismic activity. This prevents the mount from displacing excessively and the supported equipment from walking off its mounts during an event.
