Sylomer® SR 18
Sylomer SR 18 is a very soft mixed-cell polyurethane elastomer from Getzner Werkstoffe for vibration isolation under lightly loaded structures and equipment. Colour-coded orange, it is one of the softest grades in the Sylomer range and is used where low bearing pressures require a very low system natural frequency for effective isolation.

Applications
SR 18 is used in lightly loaded isolation systems where achieving a low system natural frequency is the primary objective. Typical applications include floating floor bearings under lightweight timber or steel structures, sensitive laboratory equipment isolation, and acoustic isolation of lightweight machinery where bearing pressures are very low. The high mechanical loss factor (0.23) provides excellent inherent damping relative to other Sylomer grades.
Frequently asked questions
Why choose SR 18 over a stiffer Sylomer grade?
SR 18's very low static modulus of elasticity (0.08 N/mm2) allows it to achieve lower system natural frequencies at light loads than stiffer grades can. This is advantageous when the disturbing vibration frequency is low and maximum isolation efficiency is required.
What is the significance of the high loss factor?
SR 18 has a mechanical loss factor of 0.23, the highest in the standard range. A higher loss factor means more energy is dissipated as heat within the material, reducing resonance amplification and providing better attenuation at near-resonance frequencies.
What load range is SR 18 suitable for?
The static working range is up to 0.018 N/mm2. Load peaks of up to 0.75 N/mm2 are tolerated occasionally. It is not suitable for heavy plant or machinery where bearing pressures exceed this range.
