Phonic Tech
Phonic Tech is a woven fibreglass-faced glasswool acoustic ceiling tile and wall panel from T&R Interior Systems. The stain-resistant, wipeable face resists microbial growth, and the 90-degree resin-bonded glasswool core delivers strong noise reduction for kitchens, laboratories, workshops, and other hygiene-sensitive technical spaces.

Applications
Suited to workshops, technology spaces, kitchens, laboratories, and other hygiene areas where a cleanable, microbial-resistant acoustic surface is needed. Also used in gymnasiums, sports centres, and community halls. Can be suspended in a standard 24 mm two-way exposed grid system or mounted on walls using a specialised aluminium frame.
Standards and compliance
Fire tested to ISO 5660 Parts 1 and 2 (cone calorimeter), achieving Group 1-S classification. Sound absorption tested to AS/ISO 354:2006; alphaW to ISO 11654; CAC to ASTM E1414-11A. Antimicrobial performance tested to ISO 22196:2011. Cleanroom Class 3 per ISO 14644.1:2015. Contains 80% pre-consumer recycled glasswool content. Meets Greenguard Emission Certificate standard for Green Star rated projects. Complies with NZ Building Code clause B2 (durability, 5 years).
Frequently asked questions
Why is the NRC the same for 20 mm and 40 mm Phonic Tech?
Both thicknesses achieve NRC 0.85, measured with an E-400 air gap. The 40 mm thickness substantially improves ceiling attenuation class (CAC 40 vs CAC 23 for 20 mm), which governs sound transfer between spaces across the plenum.
Can the face be cleaned in hygiene-sensitive areas?
Yes. The woven fibreglass face is stain resistant and can be wiped clean. Microbial resistance has been tested to ISO 22196:2011.
Can Phonic Tech be used as a wall panel?
Yes. It can be mounted on walls using a specialised aluminium frame in addition to suspension in a standard ceiling grid.
