PI
PI is a lightweight acoustic insulation panel from AMC Mecanocaucho, combining a white fibreglass facing with absorbing polyurethane foam. It delivers sound isolation and hydrocarbon resistance, making it well suited to industrial and mechanical enclosures where chemical exposure is a concern.
Specifications
- Composition: white fibreglass facing bonded to absorbing polyurethane foam
- Available thicknesses: 15 mm, 25 mm, 40 mm
- Sheet format: 1200 x 1000 mm
- Roll format: 1500 mm wide x approximately 20 m long
- Surface mass (PI-15): 0.66 kg/m2
- Surface mass (PI-25): 0.97 kg/m2
- Surface mass (PI-40): 1.42 kg/m2
- Weighted sound reduction index (Rw): 18 dB (15 mm and 25 mm), 19 dB (40 mm)
- Self-adhesive option: available on all thicknesses
Applications
Thermal insulation and sound isolation in industrial cabins, engine bays, and mechanical enclosures exposed to hydrocarbons or oils. The fibreglass facing resists hydrocarbon degradation, while the foam layer provides moderate sound isolation. PI is characterised as a sound isolator rather than an absorber.
Frequently asked questions
How does PI differ from a standard acoustic absorber?
PI is designed as a sound isolator rather than an absorber. The fibreglass facing and foam combination resists sound transmission between spaces, but does not significantly reduce reverberation within a room.
Why is hydrocarbon resistance important for this product?
In engine bays, compressor rooms, and industrial enclosures, contact with oils and fuels can degrade standard foam panels. The fibreglass facing on PI protects the foam layer from such damage, extending service life.
Is PI available in roll format?
Yes. In addition to 1200 x 1000 mm sheets, PI is available in rolls measuring 1500 mm wide by approximately 20 m long, suited to covering large continuous surfaces.
