Sylomer® Edge Insulation Strips
Sylomer Edge Insulation Strips are perimeter isolation strips from Getzner Vibration Solutions, manufactured from Sylomer polyurethane elastomer material. They are used to prevent sound bridges at the edges of floating floor constructions such as screeds, ensuring consistent acoustic decoupling around the full perimeter of the floor assembly.
Specifications

- Durability: Outstanding over decades
- Suitability: Standard concrete pressure
Applications
Sylomer Edge Insulation Strips are installed at the perimeter of floating screeds, floating concrete floors, and similar floor constructions to eliminate sound bridges. Even small sound bridges can reduce the effectiveness of a floating floor by up to 10 dB, so consistent perimeter decoupling is critical to achieving the intended impact sound improvement. The strips are also used in wall-to-floor and floor-to-slab junctions where decoupling continuity is required.
Frequently asked questions
Why do edge insulation strips matter if the main floor isolation layer is already in place?
Without perimeter strips, the screed or slab contacts the walls or upstands directly, creating flanking paths that can reduce the acoustic performance of the floating floor system by up to 10 dB. The edge strips ensure the entire floor perimeter is decoupled, not just the field area.
What heights are available and how do I choose?
The strips are available in 100 mm and 150 mm heights. The height should be chosen to match or exceed the finished floor build-up height, including the screed thickness and any floor finish, so that the strip remains visible and trimmable after installation.
Are the strips compatible with standard concrete screeds?
Yes. The strips are rated as suitable for standard concrete pressure, meaning they can withstand the hydrostatic pressure of freshly poured screeds without permanent compression or deformation.
