Thunder-KS1P I
The Thunder-KS1P I is a passive subwoofer from K-Array, matching the enclosure footprint of the Thunder-KS1 I active unit. A long-excursion 12-inch neodymium woofer with a 3-inch voice coil in a sealed polyurea-coated birch plywood cabinet accepts signal from external amplifiers or active K-Array subwoofers via two SpeakON NL4 connectors, enabling system expansion or multi-cabinet configurations.

Applications
Used to expand a Thunder-series system by pairing with a Thunder-KS1 I active unit, which provides amplification, DSP, and preset management. The two SpeakON NL4 connectors support input signal from any compatible amplifier and signal pass-through to additional loudspeakers. Suited to theatres, clubs, auditoriums, houses of worship, and outdoor events where extra low-frequency output is needed without adding another active amplifier. Dedicated K-Array presets loaded on the driving amplifier are required for correct system operation.
Standards and compliance
IP54 rating: protected against dust ingress and water splashing from any direction. K-Array recommends additional protection for permanent installations in critical environments such as swimming pools, beaches, or yachts.
Frequently asked questions
Can the Thunder-KS1P I be used without a K-Array amplifier?
The KS1P I can be driven by any compatible external amplifier rated for an 8-ohm load. However, K-Array Kommander amplifiers carry dedicated presets that ensure the correct crossover, level, and delay settings for this cabinet.
What is the difference between the Thunder-KS1 I and the Thunder-KS1P I?
The Thunder-KS1 I is self-powered, with an onboard Class D amplifier module and DSP. The Thunder-KS1P I is a passive cabinet with the same external dimensions and identical driver, but 3.6 kg lighter, intended to be driven by the KS1 I or another compatible amplifier.
Does the prose state IP54 or IP53 for this model?
The Thunder-KS1P I carries an IP54 rating. The active Thunder-KS1 I carries IP53. Both require additional protection for fully exposed outdoor or aquatic installations.
